During Alphabet\u2019s Q1 2025 earnings call, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that Google Search\u2019s AI<\/strong> features now have \u201c1.5 billion monthly active users.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google began rolling out AI Panorama on a large scale last May. Despite some embarrassing revelations shortly after launch, the company has continued to update and expand the tool, offering AI Overviews for more query types and even officially adding ads, aiming to compete with other AI<\/strong> search tools like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AIOverview is just one of many AI<\/strong> tools the company is developing; in the first quarter, it launched experimental AI models in Gemini 2.5 Pro, the ability to create AI podcasts using the Gemini deep search tool, and a Gemini-powered Google Maps feature that analyzes screenshots to help you plan your trip. In March, Google also announced that it would officially abandon the mobile version of Google Assistant in favor of Gemini \u201cin the coming months.\u201d In today’s earnings call, Pichai said that “tablets, cars, and devices connected to phones, such as headphones and watches,” will switch to Gemini by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of hardware, Google launched the Pixel 9A in the first quarter, but the phone was not available until April 10 due to “component quality issues.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google’s first-quarter revenue was $90.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12%. Pichai also pointed out in the earnings report that the company’s user base has exceeded 270 million, “mainly thanks to YouTube and Google One.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, one hidden danger facing Google now is that the company may face the risk of falling apart due to the loss of the US Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit against Google AI.<\/strong> Google announced its defeat last week, and the lower court has initiated proceedings, ruling that Google has a monopoly in the search field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
