The Acer Nitro series of gaming laptops upgrades with the Acer Nitro 16, bringing its previous entry-level standard to a comfortable mid-range price, with specs to match. In fact, it may be one of the best gaming laptops out there, offering enough performance to tackle the latest AAA games while keeping the cost relatively low.

I used the Acer Nitro 16 as my main laptop for two weeks, testing games like Cyber​​punk 2077 and Starfield as well as creative software like Adobe​​Photoshop and Blender, and I was impressed with its ability to handle all the tasks. The model I borrowed for testing isn’t even the most powerful of the Nitro 16 series, with configurations up to AMD Ryzen 9 CPUs and Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics, while my unit is an AMD Ryzen 7 and RTX 4060, which shows that it’s not just monster machines like Acer’s higher-end Predator Helios 18 that can bring the heat.

Life. The lid features the series’ new “N” logo, printed on a slightly tinted gray plastic – it stands out in the light. The logo is surrounded by geometric pink and blue lines, introducing a new color theme for the series, with red accents replacing the black of previous models. While it looks pretty, it picks up fingerprints very easily – as someone who wears makeup regularly, I can imagine this will be a problem in the long run. Its deep keyboard deck also adds to the overall footprint, and since you’ll probably want to elevate this laptop for ventilation, placement and space are worth considering. 

Sure, it’s a bit heavy and funky in terms of design, and its speakers and webcam both feel relatively basic, but otherwise it’s a great all-rounder with decent battery life, quiet fans, plenty of ports, and a very bright and vibrant screen. The Nitro 16’s shell is plastic to keep costs down, but it’s very solid from the lid to the keyboard deck, with almost no flex, so there’s no worry about using it.

This isn’t uncommon for gaming laptops in this price range, though, and overall I don’t think the

The DJI Avata 2 is a complete redesign of its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase, dimensions of 7.26 x 8.35 x 2.52 inches / 184.5 x 212 x 64 mm, and a flatter frame for better aerodynamics. DJI claims the Avata 2 offers better durability and power than its predecessor, while being 1.06 ounces / 30 grams lighter. Without the DJI Avata 2 battery, which is surprisingly light, it remains to be seen how well it can withstand repeated collisions, although the option to use the built-in obstacle detection and avoidance feature could go a long way toward avoiding such accidents. It’s perhaps worth mentioning that this drone was never designed to be a freestyle FPV drone – it’s still a cinewhoop with a pipe.

In the UK, operators can fly the Avata 2 using high-definition goggles, as long as there is an observer nearby who can keep the drone in sight at all times.
