The ProBook is billed as the lightest AMD business laptop. It starts at 0.99 kg, thanks to an all-metal body made of magnesium and aluminum. The laptop I reviewed came with the larger 53 Wh

(there’s also a lighter 42 Wh battery option), which weighed about 1.1 kg. This isn’t the thinnest laptop I’ve tested, but it’s as light as most consumer-grade models. Unlike some laptops, the front of the ProBook doesn’t press into my palm when it rests on the palm rest. The ProBook also comes with a fingerprint sensor and an infrared Windows Hello facial recognition camera (with a privacy shutter). Alternatively, you can set up other authentication methods, such as Bluetooth devices or security questions, through the preinstalled HP Client Security app. This app also allows you to configure other HP security features, such as Sure Start (a self-healing BIOS) and Sure Recover (system recovery). But the most notable security feature is Sure View Reflect, an integrated privacy screen. Press F2 to enable it, which dims the screen. It’s also less likely that someone next to you will be able to see what’s on the screen, because the viewing angle is also severely reduced. The bad news: Even with Sure View Reflect disabled, the screen’s viewing angles and overall visibility are worse than a standard IPS display. In short, the ProBook’s screen may be difficult to see when used outdoors during the day. The ProBook’s other features are also suitable for business users: a comfortable backlit keyboard that doesn’t feel soft, good wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi 6 and optional LTE), and a good selection of ports (two USB Type-A, HDMI, and one USB-C). What I didn’t expect was that the ProBook has dual front-facing speakers, which are surprisingly good for a laptop.

The HP ProBook 635 Aero G7, powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U chip, scored 4,611 on PCMark 10. That’s slightly lower than the Razer Book 13 (4,909), which has a newer Intel processor. More importantly, the ProBook didn’t get as hot as the Razer Ultrabook during the benchmark. ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED REVIEW: DISPLAY

I have to say this is the standout feature of this laptop. The name really says it all, as you’ll find a 15.6-inch OLED display front and center with a peak brightness of 550 nits and a resolution of 2880 x 1620 (16:9 aspect ratio).

ASUS claims the 67Wh battery should last up to 13 hours, but I haven’t quite gotten that level of performance. The battery drained by 20% while streaming The Grand Budapest Hotel on Disney+ for 1 hour and 40 minutes (full brightness). That’s not bad – 500 minutes, so over 8 and a half hours at full brightness on Wi-Fi – and in more general use, you’ll easily get over 10 hours of

ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED REVIEW: PERFORMANCE

The Zenbook model we reviewed was the “UM3504,” which comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 (7000 series) processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and AMD Radeon graphics. What does that mean in English? It should be more than capable of handling any average task you throw at it. Basically, if you’re not a professional video editor or a hardcore gamer, you won’t have any problems here.

In terms of noise output, it’s not completely fanless like the MacBook Air, but it’s fairly quiet – it only gets noticeably hot when you’re gaming. As for heat, the bottom can get pretty hot, but the top stays cool at all times.

If you’re into benchmarks, then you might be interested to know that in our Geekbench test, this Zenbook scored 2064 for single-core CPU and 9475 for multi-core. Meanwhile, the GPU measured 28,787 – certainly respectable, but proof that this isn’t a dedicated gaming machine.

ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED REVIEW: FEATURES I must admit, I really like the Zenbook’s keyboard and trackpad. There’s plenty of room for precise typing compared to 13-inch machines, and there’s even a number pad (oh my goodness). The arrow keys do feel a little squeezed, but otherwise, it’s pretty good.

If you’re looking for a party trick, this laptop even comes with a 180-degree hinge that allows it to lay completely flat. This could be very useful if you have a standing desk, but otherwise, it’s a bit niche.

In terms of connectivity, these ultra-thin laptops often forgo useful connectors for the sake of fashion, but the Zenbook does a great job. It has one USB-C 4.0, one USB-C 3.2, and even an old-school “fat” USB-A, as well as an HDMI 2.1 port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

The announcement of Dell’s thinnest XPS yet coincides with the start of IFA 2024 in Berlin this week—a massive tech event celebrating its 100th anniversary. How thin are we talking about here? Almost absurdly thin, at 05.58 inches wide and weighing just 2.6 pounds. That means it’s nearly identical in size to the excellent Dell XPS 13 (2024) with Snapdragon X Elite that we recently reviewed.

Finally! A gaming laptop that doesn’t feel like a brick. I can’t say it enough—this MSI machine is breathtakingly light. When I first picked it up, I was stunned. I thought it would be heavy, bulky, and heavy, but the truth is, it’s as light as a whisper. It weighs just 3.5 pounds. Yes, MSI put a latest-generation CPU in the Cyborg 14. (It comes with a 13th-gen Intel Core i7-13620H, even though we’re currently in an age where 14th-gen processors are the latest and greatest.)

Why? To keep costs down and make gaming accessible to those with less money. And, as you’ll quickly discover, 13th-gen CPUs are still pretty bad.

For a gaming laptop, the MSI Cyborg 14 has surprisingly good MSI Cyborg 14 battery life.

For example, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, which also has an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, lasted just 1 hour and 17 minutes on the PCMark 10 gaming test. The Cyborg 14, in contrast, lasted three hours.

That’s the longest a gaming laptop has lasted on a charge since I started testing gaming gear for Mashable.

The PCMark 10 battery test showed that the 450 G9 (Intel) lasted 12 hours and 14 minutes in idle mode, while the 455 G9 (AMD) ended up with “only” 9 hours and 27 minutes. This result was confirmed in the actual “Modern Office” test. Here, the Intel model also ended up ahead. 9 hours and 12 minutes compared to 8 hours and 19 minutes. So you can get through a workday without a problem with either laptop.

The power sources are also slightly different. The HP ProBook 450 G9 batterycomes with an “HP Fast Charge” 65-watt charger, while the ProBook 455 G9 we tested uses a 45-watt

charger. In the end, both fully charged in about 90 minutes, but the 65-watt power supply charged the first 50% much faster, taking only 30 minutes.

Things didn’t go as smoothly as I expected at WWDC. I was at Computex talking to PC OEMs the week before the show, and they had all just launched Haswell ULT-based Ultrabooks. Even the Acer S7 I picked up in Taipei was a pre-production unit, with final hardware coming next month. In hindsight, the move made sense. Apple is going to sell far more MacBook Airs than rMBPs. Apple’s relationship with Intel looks pretty good right now, so it’s no surprise that Apple had enough supply and early enough access to Haswell ULT to launch an almost immediately available MBA at WWDC. The switch to Haswell ULT doesn’t require Apple to switch to a new chassis, which means a less complicated development process.

From the outside, the new MacBook Air is nearly identical to its predecessor. There’s now a second microphone opening on the left side of the machine, but other than that, you’d be hard-pressed to tell this year’s model from the previous generation. The only thing that hasn’t changed, and perhaps should, is the display. The MacBook Air retains last year’s 1366 x 768/1440 x 900 panel, while most of the competition has moved to at least 1080p IPS panels in 13.3-inch models. This year at Computex we saw a lot of systems move to 2560 x 1440 13.3-inch panels, at least as an option, but I expect these will be priced more in line with a 13-inch rMBP rather than a MacBook Air. Honestly, I don’t know the right solution here. Super-high-resolution panels increase cost and power consumption, the latter of which could be offset by using a larger battery – but then you have a 13-inch rMBP. Perhaps the right move for the MacBook Air would be for Apple to at least move to an IPS panel? Or we might see a merger of the 13-inch MBA/rMBP, with an all-new product completely replacing the 11-inch model.
