Samsung has adopted a fresh, new design that looks fresh and will grow on you, but the price hike isn’t justified. Samsung has made some significant cosmetic changes to its Galaxy Watch series. But if you want a smartwatch with more than a day’s battery life, the Galaxy Watch 8 isn’t the ideal choice. Like all previous models,Galaxy Watch 8 Batteryit only lasts a day and is only compatible with Android phones, not iPhones. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is currently the only model that lasts more than two days, but don’t forget the Ultra’s size and weight. The Watch 8 is made of aluminum, while the Watch 8 Classic has a shiny stainless steel body.
Despite the slimmer design, Samsung has managed to squeeze in a slightly largerGalaxy Watch 8 Batterybut the point is slightly larger (the difference is minimal). Obviously, the squared-off design frees up some space for the battery.
Unlike last year, when we got a faster chip and more internal storage, the Watch 8’s hardware hasn’t undergone any major changes. The Galaxy Watch 8’s automatic exercise detection is probably the best we’ve seen on a smartwatch (and we’ve tested it plenty). Whether walking or cycling, it quickly recognizes the activity, which is impressive.
The Galaxy Watch 8’s battery capacity has been slightly increased. The Watch 8 40mm now has a 325 mAh battery (an 8% increase from the 300 mAh in the Watch 7 40mm), while the Watch 8 44mm has a 435 mAh battery (a 2% increase from the previous generation’s 425 mAh).
Actual use also confirms that the Watch 8 series’ biggest weakness remains its lackluster Galaxy Watch 8 Batterylife. You’ll need to charge these watches almost daily.
